As proof, I did. But I wondered what keeps them going? The short answer is the passion of the person who starts it. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog_carnival">Blog Carnivals</a> are heralded as a way to <a href="http://blogtactics.com/blogcarnival-blog-links/">gain</a> <a href="http://www.trevorhampel.com/how-to-participate-in-blog-carnivals/">traffic</a> for the host and the submitters. I queried the carnivals in the <a href="http://blogcarnival.com/bc/clist.php?sort=1&amp;id=&amp;directory_id=19&amp;keyword=">business</a> category and found 63 of them had at least 1 issue in 2008 to see any patterns of success. Using that as a base:</p>
<ul>
<li>40% of them have been discontinued.</li>
<li>Those with 5 issues or less - 45% have been discontinued.</li>
<li>Those with 20 or more - 33% have been discontinued.</li>
</ul>
<p>The #1 carnival in terms of entries was the Carnival of the Capitalists ended as a &#8220;Blog Carnival&#8221; although there is some intention of <a href="http://bizosphere.com/?p=123">keeping it going in some fashion</a>.</p>
